Guaimaca Community

The Work of Providence
We have been a missionary presence in Honduras for 23 years, responding to a call of the Church made by John Paul II in 2000 to the Synod of Bishops, to work in “Unity as a Latin American Church”, in cooperation and solidarity. Lay people, priests and Dominican Sisters of the Presentation joined in 2001 to be part of this solidarity network that years later, in 2004, would give life to the foundation of the community of Guaimaca. This work of Providence, this network of solidarity continues to be possible today from:
Catholic Dispensary: A work of integral attention in the area of health in general medicine, dentistry, alternative medicine (Biomagnetism and homeopathy). An exclusive space for the most needy, who manifest to find physical relief, spiritual comfort and an attention with and from Charity, in the style of Marie Poussepin. It should be noted that this care is extended in a privileged way, to the students and families of the Marie Poussepin Center.
Marie Poussepin Center (Boarding School): This mission in the educational area, provides girls and young women of scarce resources from the different villages, a possibility to be formed integrally, to grow in faith and values. They receive classes with the IHER System (Honduran Institute of Education by Radio), as well as workshops in sewing, Christian formation and values, computers, English, reading comprehension, handicrafts and agricultural practices.
In community and with the support of the tutors we want to help them discover their abilities and gifts, to strengthen their self-esteem and from the training received motivate them to be agents of change in their environment. They are accompanied, listened to and guided and they find a safe and free environment.
Parish Pastoral: As far as possible and according to the needs, we have been able to accompany some groups in the parish or support them with formative talks on a human and spiritual level. We also have a space on Channel 61 (parish channel), with a program called Seeds of Hope where the life and work of Marie Poussepin and the mission of the Congregation are made known and at this moment we are deepening the Synod of Synodality.
In addition, we have a space which is Finca Nazareth, in Calona, which has allowed during these years to contribute to the ecology of Honduras, giving a great contribution of oxygen in Guaimaca, for its forest and allowing the cultivation of various products for consumption, medicinal plants and various types of trees, including some timber.
We live these lines of mission in community, from mutual support, sharing and listening to what each one lives and is. We know that our first mission is to build community and that is what we most want to strengthen, guided by the Holy Spirit. We are grateful for the support of the Province and that of each one of the volunteers, without them and without the Providence of God, this work would simply not be possible.
